Technically speaking this piece uses non-Euclidean geometry to explore the realms of hyperbolic planes but to be honest what happened is that I started crocheting and things slowly got out of hand. I thought it would be a good idea to crochet a spiral where I doubled the stitch count at every row, thinking that it would create a beautiful organic shape. What that means in practice is that the last row of stitches has over 20,000 stitches. If my mathematics are correct, this piece should contain 40,950 stitches. But since crochet always asks the two questions:
Do I know how to count? And am I prepared to confront the answer to that question being no?
I’m guessing that total is not accurate.
I chose to use 3 similar shades of pink to create a colour that has subtle variations pulling into one organic shape that seemed to take on a life of its own. It took some stressful calculations and a lot of aggressive wrangling but I finally attached it onto the hoop.
